Ambra vale
Status – Tender
A compact single storey rear extension to a mid 19th Century townhouse in the hear of the Clifton & Hotwells Conservation Area in Bristol.
Defined by a long narrow plan and steep topography across the site, the client required a new dining space in addition to the traditional front room/back room layout of the existing building.
A splayed corner frames views out to the garden while allowing for a triangular roof overhang. This overhang combined with vertical hit & miss brise soleil minimises solar heat gain during the summer months to avoid over heating, while still allowing the low sunlight during winter months to heat the space.
Sliding doors provide level access out onto the garden terrace and herb garden. The perimeter of the extension is lined with raised beds which cascade down to garden level. The pitched roof echoes the topography of the site, falling sharply south down towards the Avon Valley.
