Status – Construction
Arch Hive were approached following a previously refused planning application to construct a double garage and separate office & utility space.
Following consultation with Bristol City Council a scheme was proposed for a single storey side extension, enlarged double garage and associated driveway.
A mix of horizontal and vertical cedar cladding with dark window frames forms a consistent palette across both structures while the side extension is finished with green roof seeded with native wildflowers. The vertical picture windows and flat rooflights are carefully positioned to ensure there is no glare or direct sunlight into the office workspace.
Deep wall and roof joists allow for high performing external walls while a deep planting zone to the green roof doubles up as additional thermal mass to keep the space cool in the summer and insulated in the winter. A sliding pocket door connects the new office and utility space with the main access to the new extension of a re-modelled kitchen area.
